Poplar Lodge is a detached house in almost an acre of grounds, situated in Tow Law in County Durham. The home provides residential care for individuals who have a learning disability and whose behaviours may place themselves or others at risk. The house can accommodate up to 9 adults, all male.
The stone built house has a homely and domestic feel and the bedrooms reflect the individual occupant’s preferences. The accommodation at Poplar Lodge consists of nine bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is also a large communal kitchen, a warm and welcoming lounge, and a smaller quiet lounge.
The annexe, in the grounds of Poplar Lodge, is a spacious building previously used as a day centre. It has a range of rooms each providing different educational, leisure and work skills activities, as well as relaxation and group activity areas. There is a gym, arts and music room, games room and woodwork room.
Due to the layout of the property, there are no accessible rooms at Poplar Lodge for people with mobility issues.
Outside, the large grounds provide opportunity for gardening activity, horticultural pursuits and maintenance projects as well as recreational activity. Each service user at Poplar Lodge has their own plot of land which they are responsible for maintaining. There are also chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs in the garden which all of the service users enjoy.
