World Health Day

“It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem” (http://content.digital.nhs.uk/catalogue/PUB21748/apms-2014-full-rpt.pdf)

October 10th is recognised by the World Health Organisation as World Mental Health Day. – https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/world-mental-health-day

The theme this year was ‘Mental health in an unequal world’.

The Covid pandemic has had an effect on everyone’s mental health. However, research carried out by the WHO found that people’s experience was affected by their social/economic status. “We are all in the same storm, but we are not all in the same boat.” Many of the people who are struggling the most, were already facing difficulties, such as people with long term health conditions, or facing discrimination, or single parents.

World Mental Health Day is also an opportunity for everyone to discuss mental health challenges openly.
